New Diet...

For those of you who don't know why, or who, your getting emails from, this is Russel Hartwig, and most of you are family, some of you are friends :-) But you're all cool! There are ten of you on the automatic distribution list for my blog when I post something new on: http://mygeneralpublicjournal.blogspot.com/. There are 60 posts (counting this one) and 2,296 views on this blog so far.

I'm on a new diet with my wife. She has a nutritionist making sure that everything's going well with it, so no need for alarm. We can eat as many vegetables as possible. Most sugars turn into unused energy (fat), so we'll be staying away from fruit, for the most part. The basic plan is to have a high in protein, high in vegetable, low calorie, low sugar diet. For this, the nutritionist is asking for 100 grams of protein and 1,500 calories a day with unlimited vegetables and stay away from sugars (both sugars from fruit and processed).

Wow! Protein shakes, with all the stuff, add up to be 290 calories & 37 grams of protein with milk and chocolate milk powder.

On a 1500 calorie/day diet, That's about 3/4 of one meal, if we do 3 meals a day. But after we have the shake we really can't eat for another 3-4 hours. Julie and I felt horaciously full after having the protein shake.

Eating 100 grams of protein a day is tough! In an expensive protein bar there are only upwards of 30 grams of it.

Cottage cheese has 14 grams of protein in one cup, with only 80 calories.

I could eat cottage cheese forever! :-D. Too bad I'm allergic to it. On the other hand, in one pound of steak, there are about 130 grams of protein! Awesome! Steak for dinner every night!!! :-D

And it has about 880 calories, so that's enough for a meal, as long as we don't eat much else during that meal. And I'd need to subtract it from the calories in the rest of the day.

That will leave us with about 620 calories left for the other two meals, breakfast and lunch. Divide those in two and you've got 310 calories per meal. That's pretty good. I think we'll have a baked potato for lunch (Max of 278 Calories), and a sandwich for breakfast with only bologna and mayo on it (354 max calories). That makes a grand total of 632 calories for breakfast and lunch.

By the way, a calorie is equal to one Kilogram of water that is increased by one degrees Celsius at sea level. The food industry has to do a lot of calculations to come up with all of their nutritional and supplemental facts.

A little over in calories for the day, but not bad! Of course there are endless combinations that can be substituted for the protein needed and the caloric limit for the day. Steak for dinner every night sounds SO GOOD though. I think we might use fish as a substitute for steak on most days. Too much of anything is a bad thing. So, moderation in all things good. Right?

Have a great day!
